Initialization error

Postby esalaman » Sat Sep 24, 2011 1:07 pm

Hello,

We have installed the demo version in several computers(win7) thay have two users Admin and Standard with the corresponding privileges respectively. The functionality of the program is correct and all messages are exchanged without problem(the purpose is to get popup notifications for the network status like switch down etc) but as soon as we login (in either accounts) we get the following initialization error:

Unable to start SMB (WinPopup) listener on ADMIN.
The NetBIOS error code is 0x16 for the network route 0.
WinMessenger will not receive messages that is sent to ADMIN.

We tried various things (Repair in the installation package, using it only on one account, restarting the service, activating other services that seemed relevant etc) but it works only for a while and then the error occurs again. Could there be a problem because all users have the same usernames? What else can we try?

Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!

The error 0x16 (“name in use on remote adapter”) means that the name ADMIN is already registered by other messaging application in your network (usually on a computer with name ADMIN). This situation is also possible when user with name ADMIN logged on to more than one computer in a network simultaneously. Actually it is not allowed to have computers with same names joined to one network or use messaging application for one user on many computers. You should to rename one of your computers or stop the messaging application on one of your computers.

According to the Microsoft Windows Network rules it is not allowed to have same NetBIOS names registered on a network.
You can display all registered NetBIOS names on a local computer by command "nbtstat -n".
You can also download a command line tool http://www.winmessenger.com/files/FindNbName.exe that can display an IP address of a computer where the NetBIOS name is already registered.

If you don’t want to change anything else then you can create “IgnoreSmbAliases”= ADMIN MultiString or String Windows registry value under the registry key "Software\\VyPRESS\\WinMessenger\\Settings". It will prevent WinMessenger from using specified name or names.

Return to “WinMessenger”
