accessing shared folders

Postby kubo » Thu Dec 24, 2009 12:41 pm

i have lan at home that consists of 4 computers (win XP) and switch. every PC has shared folder for file exchange which by now i've been opening by start->run->\\computername.

since installation of vypress chat this is no longer possible. however i can access another PC by entering IP address (which is dynamic so it's bothering). so \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx works, but \\computername does not.

this problem disappears after i access another PC clicking on user's properties (in vypress) and link with computer name. then i can open shared folders with \\computername and this works until restart.

how can i fix this? i am using default settings and no firewall

solution.

go to Start | Run | regedit.
Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters

If either of the following values are present, delete them:

NodeType;
DhcpNodeType.
Then re-boot.

This should cause the node type to default correctly.
( the node type will usually report as 'Unknown' in the default case. )

Return to “Vypress Chat”
